Linda Penn, is the President of Judicial Services for the Dropout & Truancy Prevention Network. Prior to joining the company Penn spent more than six years serving on the bench as Judge of County Court at Law #5, and also Justice of the Peace in the city of San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. She has been twice appointed and also duly elected to serve in judicial positions. In 2004 Judge Penn grew increasingly alarmed by the number of truancy cases on the docket and committed herself to the fight for education. In response, she introduced a bold and innovative truancy reduction program to the court and to the community. The program's goal was to significantly reduce student truancy rates through coaching, technology and structure by providing students with the tools required to show up, catch up and get back on track to graduate. In June of 2008 fifty-two students who had issues with truancy celebrated their successful completion of her pilot program. Using geolocation tracking devices along with tutoring, coaching and mentoring, program personnel kept in touch with the students throughout the day. In a six-week period prior to entering the program 36 of the students had accrued almost 1,000 unexcused class absences. During the six-weeks of Penn's pilot program, the same students had a 98 percent attendance rate and more than half the students had no more than one class absence per week. Penn has received many awards in recognition of her success in reducing truancy including the 2009 San Antonio Business Journal's Women of the Year. She is a graduate of St. Mary's School of Law (JD) and Incarnate Word University (BA). Penn is currently licensed to practice Law in the States of Texas, Arizona and in Western District Federal courts.
